The Sharma family once owned a shop on the old market road, where they sold sweets and tea but have rented it out now to a lady who sells readymade garments. Mr Sharma works in a government office in Mandi, while Mrs Neelam Sharma writes accounts in the Pangna post office, works in a cosmetics company, raises cattle and sells knitwear, milk and homemade dairy products. Their new house built in concrete is situated behind the shop and can only be accessed through a courtyard at the back. This unit is around a decade old whereas the old house located opposite is over a century  old. The old house had a cowshed below and a living space above. The family also owns multiple fields behind the fort and the area facing their house. The Sharmas have a 'baudi ' (a small stepwell) below the house that provides water for their cows, irrigation, washing etc.

The presence of this stepwell proves beneficial during winters as they face water shortages, and in summers as it regulates the temperature of the house, keeping it cool throughout the day.

The three homes owned by the Sharma family on the old market road create a courtyard-like space used for various activities such as drying clothes, drying food, or even relaxing.

The couple has a daughter and a son, who have moved out of Pangna for better job prospects and higher education. This further indicates the lack of higher education facilities and career opportunities in Pangna that drive youngsters to move out of their own homes, further contributing to a declining economy.
